Gentle Giants of Sint Maarten
At SXM Divers, we’re passionate about the incredible marine life around Sint Maarten, and few experiences rival the thrill of encountering humpback whales. Each year, around February to May, these gentle giants grace our waters during their migration season, traveling thousands of miles from their northern feeding grounds to the warm Caribbean to breed and calve. The sight of these majestic creatures, often accompanied by their haunting underwater songs, is a highlight for our team and anyone who joins us on the water during this time.
Humpback whales are a regular marvel in Sint Maarten’s marine ecosystem during the whale season, frequently spotted along the plateau formed by Saint Martin, Anguilla, and Saint Barthélemy—a key breeding ground from approximately February to May. Known for their spectacular breaches and graceful movements, these awe-inspiring animals captivate all who see them. At SXM Divers, we love sharing these encounters with others, offering a front-row seat to nature’s spectacle. If you’d like to join us for a whale-watching trip during these months, drop us a DM for more info. Keep an eye out for updates as we continue to explore and celebrate the beauty of Sint Maarten’s waters!
